OK then . . . go tell someone!

I never really much liked Easter candy . . . especially Peeps®  The chocolate tasted like wax and those bright-orange rabbit-shaped hunks of erasers disguised as . . .
candy literally made me go into a shiver fit (you know – like when you’re disgusted by something and your body uncontrollably shivers.) Once we found a hidden egg under the couch . . . three months later . . . ugh!

Anyway, as a kid, I wasn’t really thrilled with Easter. Christmas was WAY better. So was my birthday and any number of other special days.

Here’s what I do remember: as I got a bit older, every Easter we would sing these words in the old hymn:

Up from the grave he arose

with a mighty triumph o’er his foes

he arose a victor from the dark domain

and he lives forever, with his saints to reign

He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Growing older, I would understand more and more the meaning of The Resurrection of Jesus. Even now, with each passing year:

I am more and more amazed at the absolutely wonderful thing God did for us:

  • by becoming human and living among us
    • and living a sinless life
    • and fulfilling scores of centuries old prophecies
    • and willingly taking our place on the cross
    • and accepting the punishment that The Father gave Him as a full and complete payment for sin . . . my sin
    • and that because His body was broken – I can be healed
    • and that because His blood was shed – I can be forgiven
    • and through His sacrifice – I can be made right in God’s eyes
  • by which I can receive His gracious offer of salvation
    • if I just believe in Him
    • repent of my sin
    • and place all my trust in Him
  • and . . . BY RISING FROM THE DEAD – JUST AS HE SAID HE WOULD!

Aren’t you glad He did this for us?

Aren’t you glad He loves us so?

Aren’t you glad He demonstrated His love by dying for us?

Aren’t you glad that His word is true, His promises are rock-solid, unequivocal commitments made by Himself because:

                        He is faithful!

OK then . . . go tell someone!

Love you guys,

Steve  🙂

Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6  He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 7  And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead.”  Matt 28:5-7

Mary Magdalene found the disciples and told them, “I have seen the Lord!”  John 20:18

Great word Steve! And I’m glad I serve the one and only God who has an empty grave!

One of the most vivid and powerful memories I have as a young boy, was at a Easter play depicting Jesus coming out of the tomb, with that exact great hymn of the faith being played with a majestic choir singing..

I’m SO glad you didn’t dis on the jelly beans!! Or better yet, JELLY BELLYS! Those marvelously colorful egg shaped bundles of sugary delight, with a surprise flavor in every bite!! Reminds me of Jesus! He is marvelously in love with me and so sweetly proved that love for me by dying on the cross and then surprised me by raising from the dead! All this because he wanted to spend eternity with me!! I’ll never understand it, but I love it more with every passing year. And to think I’m one of His peeps! So blessed!! Thanks Steve for always keeping our thoughts where they need to be…
