It Takes A Village To Make A Disciple

A body reproduces a body.

A hand does not reproduce a body. Neither does an eye or a foot reproduce a body.

A healthy local church

made of healthy believers

reproduces healthy Christ followers.

Can just one person make a disciple? Sure, but not very many actually do that or are gifted enough to disciple one person from start to finish. Sadly, many believers give up on their mandate of discipling someone because they feel inadequate in doing so.

Speaking about the local church:
I believe that if each member of the whole body, working together in a spirit of unity, does its’ part in the process of pointing people to Jesus, leading people to Jesus, equipping, encouraging, building up and releasing them to do the same . . . then the whole body is involved in the process of disciple making.
  • Can you represent the love and generosity of Jesus at work or at school?
  • Can you raise your children to see God’s handiwork everywhere?
  • Can you lovingly lead them into a relationship with Jesus as their Lord and Savior?
  • Can you invite neighbors over for coffee or dinner and befriend them?
  • Can you learn to share your testimony in 90 seconds?
    • that might be all the time you have to plant a seed
  • Can you do the right thing in your business even if it may negatively affect your bottom line?
  • Can you hold a baby in the nursery so their exhausted mom and dad can hear the Word of God in the service?
  • Can you open your home, making it warm and inviting, and invite a leader to come in and lead a small group?
  • Can you make sure that you are growing in the Word so that you are taking personal responsibility for becoming more Christ like so you can be an example for others to follow?
  • Can you give sacrificially so that authentic ministry can continue in your local church and around the world?
  • Can you let your light so shine so that others can see your good deeds and give glory to your Father who is in heaven?
  • Can you do something, ANYTHING, to help someone take their next step in God?
    • if they don’t believe in God – to believe in God
    • if they don’t know Jesus – to believe in Jesus
    • if Jesus is not Lord – to make Him Lord
    • if He is Lord – to grow in Him
    • if they are growing in Him – to make Him known!
SURE YOU CAN . . .

It takes a healthy body to reproduce a body.

It takes a healthy church

made of healthy believers

to reproduce healthy Christ followers.

Make it your mission to be involved in the process of discipleship.

Discipleship is not a program, it is our life as believers. It is helping people to take their next step (of many steps) from being lost to becoming a fully functioning follower of Christ.

You can do it. I know you can!

Sure do love you guys,

Steve 🙂

After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us.  6  I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. 7  It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.  8The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.   1 Corinthians 3:5-8
