It’s amazing to me when my schedule gets full of – well, life. I’m just plain busy – got stuff to do, people to see, and places to go. “Lord, I sure hope you can keep up with me here!” I sometimes find myself thinking.
The Children of Israel must have been the same way. Because God had to teach them to wait. Wait until He said it was time to move. He wanted His people to follow His leading.
God’s presence during the daytime was a cloud
and at night a pillar of fire.
The entire nation waited until God moved. If they moved out ahead, they would be out from under His protection and presence.
Whether the cloud stayed above the Tabernacle for two days, a month, or a year, the people of Israel stayed in camp and did not move on. But as soon as it lifted, they broke camp and moved on. So they camped or traveled at the LORD’s command, and they did whatever the LORD told them through Moses. Numbers 9:22-23
Is it the same way with us? Instead of being His people responding in daily obedience and living under His protection and in His presence, we set out on our own without Him. “I got this handled Lord, thank you very much – if I get in trouble – I’ll give you a call.”
How sad. How dangerous.
We forget how blessed we are by God’s invitation for us to follow Jesus, to be His very own, living the abundant life – closely tucked into the rhythms of His ongoing love, protection, and leading.
That’s where I want to be!
“Lord, help me to trust You and not myself.
Please help me to listen to Your whispers, promptings, and instructions.
You’ve always been there.
Help me to be a good follower of You – The Good Shepherd.
I just wanna be a sheep – baaaaa!
I don’t wanna be a goat – nope!”
