“Come And See”

Do you go to a church that loves God passionately?

Do they make much of Jesus?

Is the encouraging, strengthening, and comforting presence of the Holy Spirit clearly welcomed?

Do they honor and faithfully teach the eternal truths of God’s Word – The Bible?

Are most of the people kind, welcoming, and genuine?

Well, here’s a question for you:

When was the last time you invited

someone to come to church with you?

That’s right . . . when was the last time?

There could be many reasons why you haven’t invited someone to come to church with you. (I know–I know: we ARE the church – but you know what I’m talking about.)

Reasons why Christians don’t invite their friends to church:

Maybe they’re selfish, prideful, or lazy . . . (no, wait a minute – that was a bit harsh)

Maybe they’re shy or somewhat embarrassed to invite them . . .

Maybe their life hasn’t exactly lined up with their faith . . . (they realize that they might have been – just a teensy-weensy-little-bit of a hypocrite and their friends have absolutely no idea that they’re a Christian)

Maybe they have wanted to but just never got around to it.

Maybe their church is dead, un-neighborly, unbiblical, and anti-Jesus (WOW – that one was definitely harsh)

Okay . . . okay . . . I realize these reasons might not be why you haven’t invited someone lately . . . but I want to confess that I have given pretty much all of these excuses as reasons why I didn’t invite my friends to church in the past. Ouch . . .

Did you know studies show that over two-thirds
of your un-churched friends will say “yes”
if you just invite them to church?

5 reasons why you should invite your friends to church:

  • It will build your own faith
    • exercising your spiritual muscles . . . and also, a good stretching once in a while is healthy for you!
  • It will help you to become a better disciple of Jesus
    • because you’re actually following His “Great Commission”.
  • It will encourage others in your church
    • everyone loves new guests! (especially your pastor)
  • It will help you see your church through the eyes of a visitor
    • you will experience the service in a whole new way – then you can report (kindly) back to your leaders anything you may have noticed that could be improved.
  • It may just be the key to your friend giving their life to Jesus
    • this reason is far more important than all the others – one life for all eternity is worth the shyness, or pride, or embarrassment we might feel . . . isn’t it?
Next week Christ-followers around the world will gather together to celebrate the risen Savior.

Wouldn’t this be a great week to invite a
friend to church to hear the Good News?

Love you Guys . . .

Steve

John 4:29-30 (MSG)

“Come see a man who knew all about the things I did, who knows me inside and out. Do you think this could be the Messiah?” 30 And they went out to see for themselves.

Right on Steve… Thanks for the boot in the britches. I need to invite people I meet to church. We are surely in a different time these days. The Bible is not held in high esteem. Biblical concepts are often misconstrued.

  2. Kelly says:

Go and tell, so that they can come and see!

Again, love this reminder! The gospel is simple enough to get folks who want to know more, through the doors. If the seeking heart desires more after going through the doors, that’s where we as the church step in and love them biblically so they can continue to see Jesus moves in all of us in different ways. Invite, invite and invite. Can’t tell myself this enough.
