Billy Graham’s Legacy

I was 13 when I first saw Billy Graham in person at a capacity filled stadium in Toronto, Canada. I was impressed at the size of the audience because I had never seen so many people in one place before. I was mesmerized by his message of hope in Jesus. But I was absolutely astounded when thousands and thousands responded and came forward when Billy Graham asked them to say yes to Jesus.

I grew up hearing about Billy Graham:
  • My parents thought highly of him.
  • My uncle Jack was a classmate of Billy’s in college.
  • Teri’s dad was the California director of Youth For Christ in the late 40s and early 50s and sat on the platform at Billy Graham’s first crusade in Los Angeles.

I admire Billy Graham for many things:

  • He preached the Word of God faithfully
  • He had a passion for people coming to Christ, preaching to over 77 million people in over 100 countries
  • He walked with integrity
  • He served the Lord for over 80 years without financial or sexual scandal

But most of all, Billy Graham loved Jesus passionately

and always pointed people to Jesus . . . not himself.

Now, if you love Jesus and desire to see others come to faith in Him, why not take this opportunity to use Billy’s passing as an opportunity to begin a conversation with your friends about Christ.

Here’s an idea! Maybe you could find a short video on YouTube of Billy Graham preaching about Jesus and post it somewhere on line. Here is an example

Here’s the point:  We are not Billy Graham.

We will probably never preach to stadiums full of people. But we know the One that Billy followed, and loved, and served. Let’s take this example of a simple man (a sinner saved by the grace of God, just like us) and purpose to follow the Lord faithfully until God calls us home.

If you know “about” Jesus but you do not “know” Jesus, please give your heart to Him today.

Love you all,

Steve 🙂

2 Corinthians 6:1-2
As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.  For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.

Romans 5:1
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

Romans 10:9-10
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
