A Grateful People

Thankfulness:

“I once complained that I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.”

Have you heard this saying before?  It cuts to the point, doesn’t it?

Sometimes I go about my day and just focus on the here and now.  Instead of focusing on the things that are going right, I focus on the stuff that’s not going well.  That’s not a good habit to cultivate.  I remind myself that a better thing to do is to be grateful for what is going well and what I do have that is good, beneficial, and right.

You see, it doesn’t take much for us to take our eyes off of the blessing we have been given.  We get busy.  We get hurried.  We have problems.  We focus on us and become introspective and self-centered.  Don’t get mad at me . . . you know we all do that!  We may not want to, but we do.

Paul say in Colossians to “always be thankful.”

How about doing something about this right now?  How about thinking of something you’re thankful for?  If it is a person, call, text, write or email them right now and share how thankful you are for them.  If it is a blessing, take the time right now and give God thanks for it.  If someone has served you or done something nice for you, why not let them know?  They’ll certainly appreciate it.

This next week is Thanksgiving here in America.  We too often take our freedoms for granted.  We often fail to remember that it is God’s blessing that sustains us.  Let’s be a thankful people.  Let’s remember to whom we are giving thanks this Thursday.  Let’s be grateful for what we do have, not dwelling on we do not have.  And most of all, let’s be people who are thankful for the relationship we have with Christ.  It is because of Him that we are forgiven, free, and favored!

Love you guys . . . please have a wonderful week with family and friends!

Steve

Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.
